PS5 Game Sharing: How to Share Games on the Digital Console

How to Share Games on the Digital Console

Owning all digital games has a downside - sharing them with friends gets tricky. With a disc-based PS5, you can simply lend out the game after you're finished. But if you buy digital games or own a PS5 Digital Edition, there's another way to share your games on PS5.

This version uses:

  • Simpler sentence structure
  • Everyday words like "lend out" instead of "share them"
  • Connective phrases like "But if" for better flow

How to enable game sharing on your PS5

Thinking about sharing your PS5 gaming world with a friend? There's a setting to enable this, but there's a little twist depending on whose console you'll be using.

On your PS5? Easy! Console sharing is already turned on by default. But for your friend to gameshare with you, they'll need to turn it off on their PS5.

Planning to use your friend's PS5? That's cool too! Just make sure you disable console sharing on your own PS5 first.

Here's how to disable it (on the console you WON'T be using for sharing):

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to Users and Accounts.
  3. Select "Other".
  4. Find "Console Sharing and Offline Play" and turn it off.

Now, on the PS5 you'll be using for gamesharing, make sure console sharing is enabled (this might already be the case). Go to the same settings menu (Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play) and choose "Don't Disable".

Last step? Just log in to your PSN account on the gamesharing PS5, and voila! Your friend's game library should be ready for you to explore.

The limitations of game sharing on PS5

Sharing is caring, but with game sharing, there can only be one recipient at a time. The good news is it's a two-way street! Your friend will see your games in their library, and you'll see theirs in yours. But there's a catch: only one of you can play from the other's collection at a time. So, if you're diving into a game from your friend's library, they won't be able to jump into one of yours. The good news is, as soon as you're done, the entire library is fair game for them to explore!

Remotely deactivate console sharing

Hey there! Did your friend move away with your precious game-sharing console? No worries, Sony lets you deactivate console sharing remotely. Just head over to the PlayStation Account Management page on any web browser using your PSN account. Look for "Device Management" and then "PlayStation Consoles." With a single click on "Deactivate All Devices," you're good to go! But be mindful, this is a big move - you can only use this option every six months. So deactivate wisely!
