PS5 Pro Leak: More Power, Fancy Tech Coming for Next-Gen Gaming

Word got out about the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro! A YouTube channel called Moore's Law is Dead spilled the beans on the specs, and gaming news sites like Insider Gaming backed it up. Apparently, the info came straight from Sony themselves. Sony hasn't said anything about it yet, though.

The big upgrades are to the processor and graphics card. The processor seems mostly the same as the regular PS5, but it can be kicked into high gear for a 10% speed boost. The graphics card is a much bigger jump, offering way faster rendering and fancy ray tracing effects. It's almost three times more powerful than the current PS5! Though, to be fair, real-world performance might be closer to a 50-60% improvement.

Get ready, gamers! The PS5 Pro is rumored to be packing some serious heat. We're talking a fancy upscaling tech called PSSR that makes your games look even sharper, plus special machine learning muscle and an AI accelerator for who-knows-what kind of cool tricks. There's even talk of a detachable disc drive for flexibility and 1TB of storage to hold all your favorite titles.

Analysts seem to think a late 2024 launch is likely for the PS5 Pro. This souped-up version is probably aimed at keeping the excitement going for PlayStation before Grand Theft Auto 6 rolls out next year. As IGN mentioned, GTA 6 is a big deal, not just for the game makers but for Sony too. It makes sense, considering Sony released a Pro version of the PS4 three years after its debut – the PS4 Pro hit shelves in November 2016, following the PS4 launch in November 2013. If history repeats itself, we might see a PS5 Pro this November, four years after the original PS5.
