Fitbit Inspire 4: Level Up Your Fitness with These Must-Have Features!

Fitbit Inspire 4: Level Up Your Fitness with These Must-Have Features!

Fitbit's small fitness trackers have been a saving grace for the company in the past two years, while their smartwatches haven't fared as well. While Google's Pixel smartwatch seems to have overshadowed Fitbit's own attempts, the Charge and Inspire lines are still excellent choices. The Inspire 3, in particular, is one of the best affordable trackers I've tested recently, thanks to its attractive display, accurate heart rate monitoring, and amazing battery life.

I gave the Inspire 3 a very positive review, awarding it 4.5 stars and an Editor's Choice badge. Even after a year, I'm still impressed with it, but I'm already thinking about what improvements I'd like to see in the future Fitbit Inspire 4

The same great price

The Fitbit Inspire 3 defied the odds by keeping its price tag the same as the previous version, even though other things in the market were getting more expensive. This, combined with its variety of features and affordable price, makes it a great buy for people who are new to fitness trackers and want a reliable brand. While there are cheaper options and more advanced trackers out there, the Inspire 3 strikes a good balance between affordability and features. I would love to see even more features in the next version, but I hope they manage to keep the price accessible for everyone, just like they did with the Inspire 3.

If you're looking for a more feature-rich experience, the Charge 6 is a step up from the Inspire line. But honestly, I'd prefer to see the Inspire 4 get some minor upgrades instead of a complete redesign that could potentially drive up the price. It feels like the current version just needs a few tweaks and improvements to be even better.

Digital payment support

Throughout my life, I've witnessed the fascinating evolution of how we pay. First, the humble penny faded away, followed by most coins, even my prized state quarter collection. Cash itself is becoming a relic of the past. Plastic has taken over my wallet, and whenever possible, I use my phone or even my watch to pay. This is why I'm particularly keen on Fitbit offering contactless payment options on their affordable devices. Imagine the convenience of grabbing a snack after a long walk or buying a drink after your workout, all with a simple tap of your wrist!

Of course, when a device has built-in GPS, like the Inspire 3, carrying your phone isn't as crucial for tracking your runs or rides. However, since built-in GPS is also high on my wish list (no spoilers!), it would be a missed opportunity not to hope for contactless payment support as well.

Additional smart features

While the Inspire keeps your wallet happy, it does come at the cost of smart features. The newest version offers basic notifications and a handy "Find My Phone" function, but that's about it. Considering the price, I would have loved to see music controls added. Even some cheaper trackers, like those from Xiaomi, offer this functionality. Imagine the convenience of skipping that annoying Jurassic Park theme song that shuffle keeps throwing at you mid-workout, all without having to fumble for your phone!

While I dream of features like the Google app integration found in the Fitbit Charge 6, perhaps that's a bit too much to ask for at this price point. With Google's increasing influence on Fitbit, I can't help but keep my fingers crossed for future updates that might bring some of those features to the Inspire line.

Alternative tracking pill colors

The new Fitbit Inspire 3 is a breath of fresh air compared to its older brother. It's stylish, comes in a variety of fun colors, and actually makes you want to wear it thanks to its comfortable design and customizable watch faces. However, the excitement fizzles a bit when you realize the tracker itself only comes in black, limiting your ability to truly personalize your look.

For the Inspire 4, I'd love to see Fitbit offer a wider range of tracker colors to match their existing selection of metallic and iridescent bands. Just two or three additional options would open up a world of possibilities and let users express themselves through their fitness tracker.

Built-in GPS

Fitbit claims that built-in GPS is a key difference between their Charge and Inspire trackers. But honestly, the GPS on the Charge 6 I tested was so unreliable, it felt like neither tracker truly offered it. Sure, connected GPS is okay, better than nothing at all. But that means I have to lug my phone around on runs, which is a hassle. Most of my running shorts don't have pockets, and I like to keep my hands free to pet the friendly dogs I meet on the route!

Will there be a Fitbit Inspire 4?

The future of the Fitbit Inspire line is a bit murky. While Fitbit's smartwatches seem to be facing competition from the new Google Pixel Watch, there hasn't been any sign that the company is giving up on its popular fitness trackers. The recent release of the upgraded Charge 6 suggests that Fitbit is still committed to the tracker market, even if the fate of its smartwatch lines (Versa and Sense) is uncertain.

This makes it hopeful that the Inspire line, like the Charge, will remain a priority for Fitbit. Historically, new Inspire models have been released in March 2019, March 2019, September 2020, and September 2022. Following this pattern, we could expect an Inspire 4 in September 2024. However, a post-holiday launch in early 2024 is also a possibility, though less likely considering the lack of any rumors.

Overall, while there's no guaranteed answer, the evidence suggests that an Inspire 4 is likely coming, and we'll know for sure in the next few months.
