Pixel Perfect: Google Drops Surprise Third Phone in Pixel 9 Lineup

It’s been a few months since the first renders for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro were leaked. But in an interesting twist of events, it turns out our leaked Pixel roadmap from 2022 was right all along. Today, there is a new leaked render of the Pixel 9, marking it as the third device in Google’s Pixel 9 series for 2024, which means the previous renders showed the Pixel 9 Pro and a new Pixel 9 Pro XL instead.
Leaked Pixel 9 renders
The biggest difference between the Pixel 9 and its Pro siblings might be the cameras. The standard Pixel 9 has a dual-camera system on the back, while the Pixel 9 Pro and the newly revealed Pixel 9 Pro XL boast a triple-lens setup.
Wait, hold on a sec – Pixel 9 Pro XL? You read that right. Leaker Max Hemmerstoffer previously shared info on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, but there's been a correction. Those leaks actually refer to the Pixel 9 Pro and the bigger Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Moving on to the Pixel 9 itself, it seems to have a 6.03-inch display, a tad smaller than the Pro's rumored 6.1 inches. Interestingly, leak sources say the Pixel 9 has the exact same dimensions (152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm) as the Pro. We checked with Hemmerstoffer, and he confirmed the Pixel 9 will indeed share the Pro's size.
Not the first time we’ve heard about a Pixel 9 trio
Our prediction about Google's Pixel phones seems to be coming true! Back in 2022, we leaked information suggesting a Pixel 9 with a similar 6.1-inch display to the Pixel 8. We also mentioned a smaller "caiman" Pixel 9 Pro packing all the usual Pro features into a more compact 6.3-inch body. Finally, there would be a larger "komodo" Pixel 9 Pro XL with a whopping 6.7-inch display.
Those early leaks caused a stir, with some speculating we might be wrong. After all, our info hinted at Google following Apple's approach of offering a powerful Pro phone that isn't giant-sized. Thankfully, new renders and official clarifications seem to confirm what we said back in 2022 - Google is indeed going for a range of Pixel 9 sizes!
