The April update is here for your Pixel phones and Pixel Watch

Google began rolling out the April security update for Pixel phones, tablets, and even the Pixel Watch! If you have a Pixel device running Android 14, you should be getting the update soon. The update will take a few days to reach everyone, depending on your carrier and specific device model.

This update is important because it includes several security fixes for both Android 14 in general and Pixel devices specifically. There are also some general improvements for Pixel users, but Google hasn't said exactly what they are yet.

Biometrics

  • Great news for Pixel 5a (5G) users! An update has been released that fixes a bug causing the screen to go black sometimes when you unlock your phone.
Camera
  • Great news for Pixel photographers! An update is available that improves camera stability when you zoom in and out on your Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, or Fold. This should help you capture sharper photos and videos, especially when switching between different zoom levels.
  • We've identified and fixed a problem where some Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users might see dark circles appear briefly in the camera app when switching from photo to video mode with the zoom set to 1x.
  • An update has been released that fixes a bug where the camera wouldn't adjust the exposure automatically after you tapped on the screen to focus. This fix applies to Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Fold devices.
A new software update is rolling out for Pixel devices. Pixel 5a 5G and later models are getting version AP1A.240405.002, while the Pixel Fold receives a slightly different version, AP1A.240405.002.A1.

Pixel Watch April 2024 update

Great news for Pixel Watch owners! Google released an April update for both the original Pixel Watch and the Pixel Watch 2. The update, version TWD9.240405.001, includes a bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements to make your watch run even smoother.

Vibration Watch

  • Your Pixel Watch can now tell you the time using vibrations! Just tap the watch face with two fingers, and you'll feel a series of short and long buzzes that translate to the current time.

Auto-brightness improvement

  • Let's make the auto-brightness settings screen more user-friendly! We want users to clearly see the difference between brightness levels when they adjust the slider. This will help them find the perfect setting for their needs.

You'll get a notification on your Pixel Watch when a software update is available. These updates are gradually rolling out over the next week, so you might not see it right away."

I removed technical terms like "OTA" and explained the phased rollout in simpler terms.
