The Pixel 9 series in coming in August

TL;DR
  • Google surprised everyone by announcing an August hardware launch event.
  • A teaser page on the Google Store confirms the Pixel 9 series will debut at this event.
  • Expected product launches include the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel Fold 2 (or Pixel 9 Pro Fold), and the Pixel Watch 3 series.

Google has officially announced that the highly anticipated Pixel 9 series will be launched on August 13, marking a significant shift from its usual October release schedule.

Earlier today, Google surprised many by sending out invites for a hardware launch event in August. Although the invitation did not specifically mention the Pixel 9 series, it highlighted a focus on “the best of Google AI, Android software, and the Pixel portfolio of devices.” This led to strong speculation about the inclusion of the Pixel 9 series.

Putting an end to the speculation, Google has now confirmed these suspicions by launching a dedicated teaser page on the Google Store. The page confirms the August launch of the Pixel 9 series and features a video that subtly reveals the design, aligning with leaks that have been circulating for months. The video prominently displays “IX,” and the page’s URL includes “google_pixel_9_pro,” leaving little doubt about the impending release.

While the teaser video doesn’t provide more specifics, past leaks indicate that Google is planning significant updates to the Pixel series, extending beyond just the launch date. It’s expected that the Pixel lineup will grow to include three models: the standard Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the new Pixel 9 Pro XL.

In terms of design, we anticipate a fresh flat-edge look and a redesigned, flat camera bar to distinguish the Pixel 9 series from previous versions. Additionally, rumors suggest that Google might unveil its next foldable device, potentially named the Pixel Fold 2 or Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The Pixel Watch 3 series is also expected to be showcased at the event. Google’s decision to move up the launch date might be a strategic effort to outpace Apple’s new releases, which typically occur in September.

Google’s major event is scheduled for August 13 at 10:00 AM PT, at their headquarters in Mountain View, California.
